Breaking into Fashion Buying/Merchandising…..

Coming from a background in research science I was equal parts excited and dubious about how I would make the transition into the Fashion Buying industry. Primarily….do I have the necessary transferable skills, could I make a feasible living…..am I too old at 28? Weighing these questions against an absolute love of trend production and fashion addiction, I have decided to throw my cap at it! A short call to an inside Buyer and I am enrolled in Dublin’s Institute of Design and their 10 week associate Fashion Buying course.

At 4:30 am on a Wednesday morning I start what will be my weekly commute from Ennis, Clare to Kildare street in Dublin and the Institute’s iconic green door.

I’m nervous, but extremely excited. Lectures are filled with visuals and the discussion of textures and colours, designers and trends! Hallelujah! The long silenced parts of my creative soul stretch and look up in wonder! This feels right!

Love a train dinner!

Welcome to the working week

Over two weeks in April I got to work for Mucross Weavers in Killarney.  I was involved in the visual merchandising for the set up of their new store where I organised several displays.  This is my first dip of the toe working in the fashion industry and I cannot wait to get more!!

Fashion Disaster!

A big day a few weeks back as cardboard for my mood boards arrived – not exactly the clean lines I was looking for.  Will ask for a bit more padding on second order!
